Joliet will not be new home for Immigration Detention Center

City of Joliet no longer in running for Immigration Detention Center

The city of Joliet found out on Monday evening that if the Chicago land area will be host to a new immigration detention center, it will not be in their city.

CCA apparently responded to the feedback given by the residents of Joliet, recognizing that a for-profit prison is not a good fit for our community,” newly elected City Councilman Jim McFarland said in a statement. “As a city, we can now start to focus on issues that directly affect the public good, such as the need to create sustainable high-paying jobs and confront crime in our neighborhoods.”
